Rockstar released the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on the evening of December 4. The 90-second video, posted on Rockstar’s YouTube channel, takes the series to the state of Leonida and back to Vice City, with a release window of 2025 on the Newswire. It is Lucia’s trailer first. But keep your eyes on the edges of the frame and something else appears: the people whose job is to stop her.
We went through it frame by frame and filed 14 sightings of emergency vehicles. That is one every six seconds, in a trailer that is about something else entirely.
The beach comes first (0:14 to 0:23)
The first emergency vehicles in GTA VI are not police cars. Fourteen seconds in, the camera pans over a packed beach and two lifeguard units cross the sand behind the umbrellas: a white pickup with a red lower stripe, and two red ATVs riding side by side.

The ATVs share their shape with GTA V’s Blazer Lifeguard, itself based on Honda’s utility quads. Nine seconds later the pickup reappears, parked by a lifeguard tower while the crowd swims around it. It looks like a full-size crew cab of the Ford F-150 kind. We filed both as lifeguards on context: no agency name is legible from that distance.
A helicopter over the car meet (0:28)
At 0:28 the trailer cuts to a mural-lined street where a crowd surrounds a row of lowriders. High above it, small enough to miss, a helicopter holds position. We filed it as police from the context. Its slim tail boom and single-engine nose match the Eurocopter AS350, the airframe that GTA V turned into the Police Maverick. If that match holds, the series’ most recognizable police helicopter is back.
The sheriff’s office in the rain (0:50 to 1:01)
The most explicit police moment comes at 0:50. At a wet gas station, a deputy runs after a woman in a bikini while his car waits with its lights on. Eleven seconds later, on a hazy road lined with billboards, a green and white sedan swings across the lane in front of the camera, lights flashing. An SUV in the same colors is right behind it.

These are the only cars in the trailer whose agency we can name. On the door of the sedan at the gas station we read LEONIDA COUNTY SHERIFF. Green and white is a common sheriff’s livery in Florida, and all three vehicles in this part of the trailer wear it.
The two sedans are not the same model. The car at the gas station has the rounded roof and long hood of the Dodge Charger sold from 2006 to 2010, which GTA V adapted as the Bravado Buffalo police cruiser. The cruiser by the billboards is boxier and taller, closer to the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, the real car behind GTA IV and GTA V’s Vapid Stanier. The SUV looks like a Ford Police Interceptor Utility, the Explorer-based SUV, and we know of no earlier GTA vehicle built on that one.
Leonida’s police mostly appear the way they would on local TV: at a crash, from a helicopter, behind someone running through the rain.
Crash scenes on the evening news (1:03 to 1:06)
Around the one-minute mark the trailer switches to footage styled like a local TV broadcast, with a news banner along the bottom. Two of its scenes are emergency responses.
The first is a rollover on a wet road. A tan patrol car is stopped beside the overturned vehicle, door open, while people crouch next to the wreck. Tan with a darker hood and a round emblem on the trunk reads as highway patrol to us. Its muscular body looks like a modern Dodge Challenger, the car behind GTA V’s Bravado Gauntlet. The series has never had a police Gauntlet, so this one would be new. A second car with a blue light, likely the same model, sits half hidden under the banner, and a white car waits at the edge of the frame.

The second is an aerial shot of an intersection taken over by dirt bikes. Police cars hold the crossing, and they do not match. One is white with a blue stripe, one is white with a green stripe and a gold badge, and a third has the rounded Charger shape again. The first two share the same body: the squared roof and short tail of the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, the Taurus-based car that GTA V’s Vapid Police Interceptor was built on. One model in two liveries, in the same shot, suggests that more than one force works these streets.

Counted from our catalog. Every sighting is listed with its timestamp on the Trailer 1 timeline.
Three things stand out after a first pass.
Leonida has several police forces. A county sheriff, a highway patrol unit in tan, at least two city liveries and a helicopter, all in 90 seconds. GTA V’s state had a city police department, a county sheriff and a highway patrol of its own, and Leonida already looks just as layered.
The fleet looks like real Florida, roughly 2015. A Crown Victoria style cruiser, older Dodge Chargers, a Challenger and the Taurus-based Interceptor: these cars filled US police fleets through the 2010s. If Rockstar follows its usual method, each one will get a fictional badge and a familiar name.
Lifeguards matter. Three of the 14 sightings are lifeguards, all within the first half minute. Vice City is a beach city, and the trailer treats its beach patrol as part of the scenery from the first shot.
None of the vehicles has an official name yet. Every sighting, with its exact second, is on the Trailer 1 timeline, and each vehicle has its own file with every frame we have of it.
