Every Rockstar release sends the gaming press back through the footage, and the police get their share of attention. Here is what six outlets reported about GTA VI’s law enforcement over the last year and a half, set against our own frame by frame catalog. We link their reporting where we cite it. Where our frames add something, or disagree, we say so.
| Outlet | Date | What they reported | What our frames show |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Drive | May 6, 2025 | A Taurus and a Crown Victoria at a street stop in Trailer 2 | Both, and the Taurus reads VICE CITY POLICE |
| Game Rant, Dexerto | June 3, 2025 | A ghost car whose markings show only in the light | The markings do appear, within a second |
| IGN | August 27, 2026 | Police take a description: your look, car, clothes, and whether you are a pair | Four matching icons under the stars |
| SVG | August 27, 2026 | Four stars out of six in the Extended Look chase | Four lit stars, six slots |
| GamingBolt | October 16, 2026 | Lucia attacks police vehicles from a helicopter | The police vehicles, but no helicopter in frame |
The Drive: a Taurus and a Crown Victoria at one stop
The day Trailer 2 came out, The Drive went through its cars with an eye for real models. At the street stop by the murals, Byron Hurd saw one cruiser styled after a Ford Taurus and one after a Crown Victoria. He also singled out the Taurus-style car’s light show.

We agree on both. The white car has the squared roof and short tail of the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, and its trunk reads VICE CITY POLICE. GTA V built its Vapid Police Interceptor on the same Taurus. The black car has the long, boxy body of the Crown Victoria, the car behind the Vapid Stanier. Our Trailer 2 recap goes through the rest of that trailer.
Game Rant and Dexerto: the ghost car
A month later, both outlets picked up a detail from the same stop, first spotted by the YouTuber Obvious Malcolm. The black car down the road looks like ordinary traffic at first. Then, as Jason drives closer, police markings appear on its side. Game Rant’s Sarah Fields raised the possibility of unmarked cars watching you from normal traffic. Dexerto’s Michael Gwilliam made the same point, and noted that GTA Online’s ghost decals do not react to light this way.

Our frames back the observation. At 0:45.3 the black sedan’s sides look plain, and two thirds of a second later a gold stripe and a gold badge show on its door. What the frames cannot tell us is why. Reflective decals that only show in the light are one explanation. The camera moving past the car, changing the angle of the street light, is another. Neither outlet claims Rockstar confirmed anything, and Rockstar has not said whether cars like it will patrol during play.
The markings do appear within a second. Whether that is a game system or a camera move, the trailer cannot tell us.
IGN: police who remember your description
In August, IGN sat in on 30 minutes of play at Rockstar North, with studio co-head Rob Nelson at the controls. Its exclusive preview is the most detailed account of the police so far. If the police see you commit a crime, they respond, and depending on the situation they take a description. That covers your appearance, your vehicle, your clothes and whether you are together or apart.
Changing any of those helps you get away: ditching the car and going on foot, for example. In the demo, Lucia got away on one of the shared scooters left on the street. Nelson also warned that driving away is harder than before, with narrower, more realistic streets and dense traffic.
SVG: four stars out of six, and what the icons mean
The same day, SVG’s Joe Roberts gathered everything Rockstar had confirmed about the wanted system. During the Extended Look’s downtown chase the meter shows four stars out of a possible six; GTA V stopped at five. Below the stars sit red icons, which SVG reads as what the police know: that there are two of you, what you look like, what you wear and what you drive. A fifth icon, a camera, would mean they have you on CCTV.

This is the interface, which our catalog does not file. But the frames match SVG’s reading exactly. At 15:38, during the chase, four of the six stars are lit, and the four icons are two people, a clothes hanger, one person and a car. There is no camera icon in any frame we kept. SVG also reports that the police respond only when a witness sees a crime or an alarm goes off.

GamingBolt: police on the losing side
In its analysis of the Launch Trailer, GamingBolt’s Ravi Sinha lists the police among the series’ classic ingredients. There is a hypercar outrunning them, corrupt cops, and Lucia firing a grenade launcher on police vehicles from a helicopter.

We filed the police side of that shot: a dark SUV, a tan pickup with an armed figure in its bed, and a third vehicle lost in the smoke. In our frames, though, the structure around Lucia could be a helicopter’s door or a balcony, so we filed no aircraft. GamingBolt may well be right; the trailer does not show enough for us to file it.
What we have not seen in the coverage
Three details from our catalog have not come up in anything we read.
- A model name. At 15:48 in the Extended Look, a Vicebeach Police trunk carries badges reading BRAVADO and BUFFALO, the only model name we have read on any GTA VI emergency vehicle.
- A second county. The Launch Trailer’s Mariana County Sheriff SUV is the first vehicle we have seen with that county’s name. A Trailer 2 road sign had already pointed toward Mariana County.
- A county police force. The Vice-Dale Police helicopter in Trailer 2 shares its name with Vice-Dale County on the same road sign, so Leonida likely has county police as well as city forces.
